01

Core service questions

What is a Shopify CRO agency?

A Shopify CRO agency increases the revenue a store earns from its existing traffic. Instead of spending more on ads, it analyses where visitors drop off, runs A/B tests, and rebuilds pages, cart and checkout to lift conversion rate, average order value and revenue per visitor. At PM Digital, we do this full-funnel for 7–9 figure DTC brands.

What does a Shopify CRO agency actually do?

It audits your entire post-click funnel — landing page, product page, cart, checkout and post-purchase — forms test hypotheses from data and customer research, then designs, builds and QAs experiments in Shopify. Good CRO measures the impact on revenue and margin, not just conversion rate.

How much does a Shopify CRO agency cost?

Pricing depends on your traffic volume, funnel complexity and scope, and is usually a monthly retainer. At PM Digital, we match scope to your revenue and testing capacity so the programme pays for itself.

How long does CRO take to show results?

Individual A/B tests need enough traffic and time to reach statistical significance, often two to four weeks, longer for lower-traffic pages. Real gains come from a continuous testing programme that compounds over months, not from a single test.

Do you work with Shopify Plus?

Yes. We work across Shopify and Shopify Plus, including checkout extensibility and custom development for Plus brands.

What makes PM Digital different?

We optimise for profit and revenue per visitor, not vanity conversion rate, and run strategy, copy, design, development and QA under one roof. We've helped brands like Cadence reach a checkout subscription take rate of roughly 70% through full-funnel CRO.

02

Strategy and methodology

Do you only work with Shopify brands?

We specialise in Shopify and Shopify Plus, since full-funnel CRO, checkout extensibility and custom theme development all come together on one platform there. We occasionally take on non-Shopify DTC brands, but our system — from Figma component libraries to build agents — is built around the Shopify ecosystem.

Why do you focus on Revenue Per Visitor instead of conversion rate?

Conversion rate alone hides what happened to average order value and subscription rate. RPV — total revenue divided by total visitors — captures all three in one number. A page with a lower CVR but higher AOV or subscription rate can produce more revenue per visitor, and RPV is what we report every test against.

What's the difference between CRO and just running more ads?

Ads earn you traffic. CRO earns you more revenue from the traffic you already have. Cold traffic converts at roughly 1.2–1.8% on a standard product page versus 2.9–4.1% on a dedicated landing page, so the same ad spend can produce more than double the revenue depending on where it lands.

What is an evergreen landing page?

An evergreen page is built to convert the widest possible slice of your cold traffic audience — a single strong page that performs broadly before we start segmenting. We always build and prove an evergreen page first, then use it as the foundation for more targeted, persona-led pages.

What is a persona-led landing page?

A persona-led page targets one specific angle within your audience. For a haircare brand, that might mean one page addressing eczema and scalp irritation and a separate page addressing heat and colour damage. Same product, different pain points, proof and structure, because different customers buy for different reasons.

How many tests do you run per month?

More than the industry standard of 3–4. Because our pods and internal system let developers ship faster, we run more landing page variants and offer tests in parallel, which means faster learnings and CAC gains that show up sooner rather than over a full quarter.

How do you measure message match?

We compare the language, offer and imagery in the ad against what a visitor sees on landing. Strong message match alone typically lifts conversion rate 15–30%, so it's one of the first things we audit on any new account, before touching design or copy.

Do you do advertorials or listicle landing pages?

Yes, where the brand and traffic source call for it. Advertorials and listicle-style pages work well for cold traffic that needs more education or story before a direct offer, particularly in supplement, skincare and other consideration-heavy categories.

Do you work on checkout, or just landing pages?

Both. Checkout optimisation, including Shopify Plus checkout extensibility, is part of full-funnel CRO. A strong landing page that leads into a weak checkout still leaks revenue, so we treat checkout as a test surface, not fixed infrastructure.

What's included in a full-funnel CRO programme?

Research, strategy, landing pages, advertorials, checkout optimisation and subscription growth — all tied to your performance and scale goals rather than delivered as separate line items. We treat the whole post-click journey, from ad landing to post-purchase, as one system.

Can CRO fix a rising CAC on its own?

It's one of the most effective levers, since CAC is up 24.7% year on year and media costs alone are hard to control. Improving landing page RPV, subscription rate and checkout conversion increases the revenue each customer generates without needing to spend more to acquire them.

03

AI, development and QA

How does AI fit into your research process?

AI hasn't replaced research, it's made the depth we always wanted feasible on a monthly retainer. We pull language patterns, objections and purchase triggers from reviews, support tickets and surveys, then layer in winning and losing test analysis and competitor teardowns, all documented and kept current for every client.

What's a “code agent manager”?

It's what our developers have become. Instead of writing every line of a build from scratch, they direct AI coding agents that already know a brand's design language, Shopify theme structure and past test history, then review the output and make the precise tweaks that need a human eye.

Does using AI in development reduce quality?

No, and we hold the opposite standard. Our QA pass rate sits at 95% before any build reaches a client's live site, checked against device sizing, load speed, tracking and design fidelity to the Figma file. Speed only counts if what ships is clean.

Do you use Figma for landing page design?

Yes. Every client's brand files, design guidelines and component libraries live inside our internal system, tied to Figma. New builds start from an established design language instead of a blank page, which is part of why development moves faster without losing design quality.

Why don't you just sell access to AI tools like other agencies?

Because that's not a defensible service. Every advancement in AI becomes an upgrade to our own internal system, and that upgrade passes to every client automatically at no extra cost. Clients get faster builds, deeper research and sharper copy without needing to hire, manage or integrate any of it themselves.

How do you keep improvements from staying stuck on one account?

Every pod runs on the same shared internal system. When we improve a research method, copywriting framework or development workflow for one client, it becomes part of what every pod uses next, so every brand we work with benefits the next time we ship.

Do you build your own tools, or just use off-the-shelf software?

Both. We use best-in-class tools where they exist, and we've also built AB Genius, our own Shopify A/B testing app, because most split-testing tools don't let you test price changes that actually apply at checkout, not just on display.

What is AB Genius?

AB Genius is a Shopify app we built for A/B testing prices, headlines, images and full page layouts, with a visual editor and AI-assisted CSS. Price tests apply at checkout, not just on the page, which most testing tools don't support. It's available on the Shopify App Store, with a free plan to start.

04

Team, process and client experience

What's a “pod” and why does PM Digital use them?

A pod is a fixed team — one CRO specialist, one developer, one QA specialist — assigned to a small group of accounts every month. No handoffs, no re-explaining the brand. The pod carries full context on your customer, test history and brand voice from month one, so output compounds instead of resetting.

Do clients get visibility into research and test results?

Yes, through a client portal showing audience research, test roadmap and results in one place. We also run a weekly Slack touch-base for a human check-in. A dedicated hub per client with continuously updated audience and brand monitoring is in development.

What's your onboarding process like?

We start with deep audience and account research, competitor and creative teardown, and a review of test history if one exists. That research feeds the first evergreen page build.

Do you take over accounts from other agencies?

Regularly. We picked up a collagen brand's account from another agency in February and have since scaled it aggressively with new landing pages, offer testing and full-funnel CRO tied directly to media buying decisions. Most accounts we take over have a page setup that hasn't been touched in some time.

Do you write the ad creative too?

Where it fits into the account, yes. Landing page strategy fails if the ad creative feeding it doesn't match. We work on creative to keep message match consistent from hook to page to offer, and we work closely with media buyers to see how page changes affect NCPA in the ad account.

What size brands do you work with?

Mainly 7–9 figure DTC brands with enough traffic to reach statistical significance on tests within a reasonable timeframe.

05

Subscription and retention

What subscription take rate should a DTC brand expect on cold traffic?

Cold traffic typically converts to subscription at 18–22% without optimisation. A well-built subscription landing page can push that to 30–40% or higher. We took Cadence's checkout subscription take rate to roughly 70% through full-funnel CRO work, well above either benchmark.

How fast should CAC pay back?

Under two months is the target we work toward with clients. CAC has risen 24.7% year on year, so a slower payback window puts more pressure on cash flow and makes scaling paid spend harder. Full-funnel CRO, not just ad optimisation, is usually what closes that gap.

What's the retention benchmark you work toward for subscription brands?

70% or higher at 30 days is the benchmark we hold subscription programmes to. Retention below that usually points to an offer, onboarding or product-fit issue that landing page and checkout testing alone won't fix, so we flag it early rather than testing around it.
